Ecosystems: how to build an interoperable smart home.

If we’re talking about how to build an interoperable smart home, compatibility has always been paramount in my electronic device purchases. I have tried to make sure that everything I bought was compatible with the other devices because otherwise, the danger was having duplicate functions and even more so when it comes to Smart Home.

With the advent of ecosystems, in which Apple is still defining the strategy to follow, there are choices to be made:

• You can’t play Spotify on an AppleTV but you can on a Google Home Mini.
• Amazon Music can only be played on an Alexa Dot.
• Finding devices that work with all three systems is an odyssey.

How to build an interoperable smart home? Solution: at least two of the three systems.
